Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015), PG, ★★1/2

All these scary characters taking a trip. Ah, yes. Family life. Well, this is not your typical family as they are isolated from the everyday world that we live in. No, not animated. But, they are some sort of fantastical horror family like The Addams Family. But, it is a question of whether or not you want to live with them or identify them as a normal family. How would they define a normal family in their standards? Well, have a vampire marry another vampire. But, in their own case, you have a vampire and a human marry together and have a son. But, they have a repercussion as their son is not really a vampire yet and produces some jokes along the way. However, this family-friendly comedy misses on jokes as their main plot is a solid one. But, the movie relies on those unfunny jokes as entertainment to try to serve a purpose but their purpose did not delight me enough. Count Dracula's (voiced by Adam Sandler) daughter, Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez), has married Johnny (voice

The Intern (2015), PG-13, ★★★

Robert "Raging Bull" De Niro is Anne Hathaway's Intern? An internship is critical at any field to experience what is like to see what every job of that field is doing and why they are an important asset to the team and to the company. It is also a great strategy to build a resume but learning the experience is what it's all about. But, the notion of taking a seasoned businessman under a younger businesswoman's wing is a very particular concept for a film because we learn to see what sort of advice each person give to another. However, the chemistry, not a romantic chemistry, but a working relationship and potentially a "father-daughter" chemistry between Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway is what worked for me. Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway) plays an owner and CEO of an e-commerce fashion company. She has two problems and they correlate to each other in her business life and personal life. Her business investors think that they need a more experienced C

The Green Inferno (2015), R, 0 stars

AHHHH!!!! NOT MY HAIR!!! NOT MY FACE!!! There are three different types of horror films: Intelligent horror films, stupid horror films and repulsive horror films that makes your stomach churn. This movie falls in the third category. I am not a huge horror fanatic in any sense of the word but recently there are some horror films that have been good. M. Night Shyamalan's The Visit was sort of a comeback to his minimalistic horror genre. But, his approach was intentional as it was sort of scary but funny simultaneously. This movie has a few laughs here and there but when it comes to the gruesome scenes of aberrant behavior of faces being ripped apart and eyes gouging, it seemed that the director, Eli Roth, was returning to his roots of bold and risky vision and it seemed that he was giggling and laughing behind the camera like a kid at Christmas. I can picture that aspect but I was not laughing during the scenes of torture that appalled me. Justine (Lorena Izzo) is invited to a

Everest (2015), PG-13, ★★★

Jake Gyllenhaal is in almost everything...but he's not the star. Mount Everest. It is the Earth's highest mountain and presents critical dangers to every human being attempting to climb up and/or climb down. It is about above the peak of where the required amount of feet that a plane can fly in and there is not enough oxygen at that peak. Now, I am not an expert of mountain hiking but I had very few experiences of rock climbing but indoor rock climbing but this movie does not, by any means, persuade me to go climbing any time soon. The visual look of the film is a beauty and a sole testament to the film despite the running time of the film. But, nevertheless, it is an experience to watch in the theaters and witness what these people went through back in 1996. Hundreds of professionals attempted to climb Mt. Everest and now results in one in four dying. In 1996, Rob Hall (Jason Clarke), gathered his team, Adventure Consultants, to climb the big mountain. His team consist

The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, PG-13, ★★

Mmmmm....food. YA adaptations...right? There has been not much momentum regarding that particular genre that persuades me to run to the theaters, as they se, ever since the second  Hunger Games ...and I am hoping that the last Hunger Games movie is good because of Jennifer Lawrence's presence. The difference between that movie and Harry Potter on one side and the other films such as The Divergent series and the Maze Runner series is that there is involvement and likability between the characters and an interesting story. The latter two series has some moments of interest factor but sort of feels episodic as we have to shift from one stage to another stage to tie up loose ends. While there's too much action and running for most of the time, we are invested with the undeveloped characters in this unorganized film. At times, it felt like my head was banging on a locker door for some minutes. It was sort of tiring. Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and the rest of the Gladers - Newt

Black Mass (2015), R, ★★★

Oh, brother...What has Depp gotten himself into this time? The mob genre has generated some of the most classical and disciplined movies of our history... The Godfather, The Godfather Part II , GoodFellas, White Heat , The Departed , etc. But, it is GoodFellas that set the bar, a real high bar because it is about one of the two or three perfect mob movies ever made, that sort of gets you into that 1970s era where you're a participant or witness with the gangsters laughing and speculating. Criminal deeds of organized crime is a hark for major trouble for the streets and can cause the population to decline no matter what. Even distribution of drugs and other illegal items can make some people in the high security system suspicious. This movie about Whitey Bulger is a case of transcending the genre of a true story into high-tugged suspense with a standout performance from Johnny Depp. James "Whitey" Bulger (Johnny Depp) is a small-time leader and gangster of and leader

The Perfect Guy (2015), PG-13, ★★

He is The Perfect Guy...or is he not? Ladies...who is The Perfect Guy? Gentlemen...who is The Perfect Lady? In all cases, only one guy and only one woman know who the perfect other is in this world and in this lifetime. However, the perfect other can have a suspicious background in their past or maybe have a dark personality like switching from being a nice charming person to a psychopathic lunatic. When going through a dark phase in a relationship, one wants to get in the game as soon as possible but this movie is sort of a lesson as to what kind of a person you will find at a random place. This movie plays like a " Basic Instinct -type" of vibe of highlighting an intriguing but dark relationship but the cliches pile up in the first two-thirds and a little bit of the final third but with a little twist. But, this is still a product of no originality and little suspense. Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) is an accomplished lobbyist who has an unstable relationship with her boy

The Visit (2015), PG-13, ★★★

Watch out for you grandparents!  No wonder many people are finding very little images of this film because it seems that M. Night Shyamalan, the director, is returning to his roots of minimized horror but with a modern take of storytelling. We all that experience of a certain occasion of visiting grandparents for a weekend or staying with them for a weekend. As little children, sometimes, they can be viewed as very loving caretakers. But, what happens if their personalities are deceiving? Something is in the air. Now, Shyamalan has made some turds, including the baffling and decrepit Last Airbender movie, the stupid movie called The Happening , and a boring movie with plot holes called After Earth . This is a movie that has an intriguing but hollow premise and even though there are scares and humorous and occasional moments, I liked for what it is: A humorous take during a week with the grandparents. Becca and Tyler (Olivia DeJonge) and Ed Oxenbould) are siblings preparing for a

What are the Top 10 Movies of the SUMMER?

A recap of all of the Summer Movies. I have never done a top 10 list of the summer movies ever and when I think of a pure summer movie: I think of entertainment and fun. Well, sometimes, you do not want just nonsense with no logic to back it up but you want some intelligence from certain movies. Even though it was a rough start to the year and there very few good movies and one great movie, this summer was a summer that surpassed expectations with familiar and unexpected films. Most of these are not guaranteed to be in the end of the year but, we'll see. This list only ranges in entertainment and maybe 2, 3 or 4 of these will be in my top 10 in the end of the year. You never know. 10. Jurassic World This is the sequel I was sort of waiting for but despite the holes and flaws of the film (one involving someone's "running shoes" and one involving gasoline), this was a fun summer movie. I was yearning for one since we get only attempts to reincarnate the fest

My Top 10 Favorite Sports Movies

I decided to put a list of my favorite sports movies list since college football season is around the corner and also the NFL football season is beginning next weekend. Since there are no movies that are interesting coming out this weekend, I decided to glance at my favorite top 10 sports movies and that is a hard task to do trying to figure out what is my favorite and what are my favorite "rewatchable" movies. Without further ado, here are my favorite top 10 with a little honorable mention list: Honorable Mentions: Senna Rush McFarland, USA Rudy (more of a school coming-of-age true story than football movie) Bend It Like Beckham The Wrestler A League of their Own Happy Gilmore The Bad News Bears (1976) The Fighter (more of a family drama than a sports movie, tough putting it off the list) Caddyshack (more of a future pick for comedy than sports movies) 10. Friday Night Lights 9. Million Dollar Baby 8. Remember the Titans 7. Warrior 6. Mirac
