The Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2014

The summer is not really around the corner, but for big summer blockbusters, it is. Studios and filmmakers present their finished projects -- predicting that they will gross enormous amount of money in the box office -- in the first week of May. So, if one big movie is opening in the first week of May, that means the summer popcorn season begins. And, here are my top 10 anticipated films of Summer 2014. It was tough to pick the most anticipated movie because, in a long while, there's not one that I say that I'm really dying to go see and, at the same time, that it will received well by the audience and the critics.

10. Godzilla, May 16

I'm not a huge fan of Godzilla, but given the unknown clarity and skepticism that I got from this trailer, it looks eerily exciting. I just hope that the final result will not be as disastrous as the other movie directed by Roland Emmerich in 1998. God, that was a piece of junk.

9. Transformers: Age of Extinction, June 27

Ugh! Not another Michael Bay-directed-Transformers movie! The only reason I put this in my top 10 anticipated movie list is because well, it will potentially rack up so much money in the box office. However, it has potential to fare better than the sequels with Shia LaBeouf with all his screaming and "No-no-no-no-no-no" ing.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy, August 1

This will either be a great and funny superhero flick or just a catastrophic joke. Based on the trailer, this movie looks like a much more different superhero movie than any other comic-book based superhero flick. I just hope it's better than the Fantastic Four movies.

7. Edge of Tomorrow, June 6

It's Tom Cruise in a summer action flick. That's it. But, he has had a bit of a recent slump since Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. I'm a bit worried about this movie but Doug Liman, the director of The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, can craft a organized action flick.

6. Neighbors, May 9

Now, we come to the movies where I'm starting get a little excited about. I laughed and chuckled throughout the entire trailer. Why not make a movie about an ordinary family trying to deal with a fraternity's noisy and inappropriate issues? It's Seth Rogen vs. Zac Efron. It potentially looks like a hilarious comedy.

5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, May 2

I did not enjoy the first Amazing Spider-Man picture, for it was just all over-the-map and too cartoonish. But, this movie has a pretty cool villain plus another potential villain. It's also a bit different from the other movies from Tobey Maguire, so I'm a little excited. I can't wait to witness what Electro delivers on-screen.

4. Jupiter Ascending, July 18

This is probably the coolest-looking trailer out of the ten because the Wachowskis deliver some sensational visual effects and marvelous shots. Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are the main characters who go on a journey to justify that Kunis' character is the universe's new leader. They have an inconsistent record in their films but this movie looks interesting.

3. X-Men: Days of Future Past, May 23

This sequel is either going to be a great installment to the series or a disastrous misfire. But, this latest trailer delivers the appetite of what the movie will present to the audience. Bryan Singer, the director of the first 2 X-Men movies, is back and will probably make the re-booting series superior to the first 3 movies because First Class was a very good movie.

2. 22 Jump Street, June 13

I have to admit it. I laughed throughout 21 Jump Street. Although there were plot holes, it was just a fun time at the movies. Channing Tatum (he has two pretty interesting movies this summer) and Jonah Hill are the perfect pair of mismatched buddies to pay attention to. No matter what the crime is going to be at college, I just hope there is twice as many laughs as the prequel. Also, we can address Hill as two-time Oscar nominee Jonah Hill.

1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, July 11

This is probably the movie I am most excited for because Rise of the Planet of the Apes caught me by surprise and was a pretty good movie, caring about Caesar, memorably acted by Andy Serkis, and the rest of the ape clan. It's four years later and the virus has already wiped out most of the population. I'd take Gary Oldman's presence over James Franco's presence in any movie. His speech and Caesar's terrifying presence really made the trailer.

Honorable mentions: Maleficent, A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Fault in Our Stars, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Think Like a Man Too.

2015 Documentaries

I have only seen 6 documentaries this year which also includes Amy and I Am Chris Farley . But, I have to be honest, this has not been a particularly strong year for documentaries except for onethat got me emotionally and mentally as what I examine for when they uncover the truth or some facts from the people involved in these documentaries. But, here are the four I have seen this year: Listen To Me Marlon, Unrated, 4 stars This is the most insightful documentary of the year as we only hear Marlon Brando narrating his life and experiences what he has gone through regarding his family, his private life and his film experiences regarding The Godfather , Apocalypse Now , Last Tango in Paris , etc. It is like Marlon Brando came out of his grave to give us another profoundly moving movie only we hear his voice and scenery and nothing else. The Look of Silence, R, 3.5 stars Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up documentary is a light-hearted but still-disturbing film regarding a ...

Daddy's Home 2 (2017), PG-13, ★1/2

The first Daddy's Home was surprisingly a financial success as I thought it was not as bad as many people thought. I thought it was a solid cable watch because it had enough laughs for that sort of mixed recommendation. I was not craving for a sequel for this movie because again, comedy sequels have a very bad record, however, the only difference is that it is not too late since the first movie came out a few years ago. But, this sequel is a reminder as to why we do not need a sequel to a hit comedy because this is a pretty much forgettable comedy, especially a holiday comedy...which I hade a guilty pleasure for. This did not work for me. Brad and Dusty (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) have become friends after the events of the first film and they set up a co-dad system where their two children, Megan and Dylan, spending time at each father's home. Dusty has re-married to writer Karen (Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio) and he is step-dad to Adrianna, Karen...

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), R, 4 stars

The stockbrokers worshipping Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) like a god. Wall Street. The clients, the adrenaline, the stocks, the money, the power, and the decadence. The former three pertains to the man's job, but the latter three pertains what any stockbroker wants in order to have the freedom to do whatever they want with the client's money. As Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) would say, "The name of the game is: move the money from your client's pocket into your pocket." We basically spend three hours seeing all of these Wall-Street scumbags steal the clients' money into their own pockets and spend it on booze, drugs, women, and other insane things in more insane activities. I have witnessed here is a great movie that I would not watch repetitively. The movie starts with Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) blowing cocaine onto a hooker's butt and he and his brokers throwing a little person onto a board with a dollar sign in the center. It'...
