Locke (2014), R, ★★★★

Tom Hardy getting stressed while driving.
Anything can change over a course of a stressful day. Anything can come up over a course of a stressful day. No matter because life is unpredictable as to one's decision of how to resolve an issue or matter when stressed of what to do that could impact his life. Is he going to be blissful or remorseful whether he makes the decision or not? The decision all takes place in a car during the night with just one actor driving throughout the whole movie. This process has not been done before and it is a riveting success.

Construction worker Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) has to make a decision before the day he has to supervise a concrete pour in Birmingham. What we learn is that Locke has had a one-night stand with a co-worker that is going into premature labor. The decision is whether or not he has to leave behind his family and job to be with Bethan during childbirth in London. He gets frustrated, sarcastically comforting at times, and simply happy over the course of the whole picture as events unfold during his life.

What is Locke going to do?
I cannot reveal much other than the synopsis of the movie and the character because the decision he makes is relevant to what happen in a relationship with someone else that is germain and meaningful as to why he is frustrated and stressed. This movie is an ongoing acting process that his character changes more smoothly than usual when calling friends, co-workers, and family. It is remarkable to watch to see an experiment be executed, used, and work brilliantly because Steven Knight, the director, had a method of just to show one character driving but no one else other than voices from the other side of the line as we listen the tone of the people in his life as Locke talks to him.

Tom Hardy is no less than compelling in this one-of-a-kind role. He is fantastic as he unfolds all of his emotions just inside his car letting out his stress. It is a remarkable performance. This is a unique masterclass that is about ambitious to undertake but it is successful because of a brilliant performance and a nail-biting story. The movie is an 84-minute ride that did not bore me because it is simply just a day in the life of a normal person who has to make a hasty decision. Everybody has to make hasty decisions once in a while that could impact their lives. This movie is a little treasure to see and behold. It is one of the most unique films of the year and one of the best of the year.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), PG-13, ★★1/2

We're about halfway through the Harry Potter franchise and this is the turning point in which I found the material to be darker and more mature when the storyline surrounding Lord Voldemort grows. And, also we see another new and fresh direction as David Yates comes into the spotlight to finish off the franchise with the last four movies. I remember watching the trailer in the theaters and I was excited for this movie as it was mostly action-packed. The bottom line is despite the camaraderie between the young Hogwarts characters and a real-good action sequence in the climax, it is a choppily edited and more grounded movie that does not provoke much magic or memorable scenery. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is enduring a hot summer and Dudley (Harry Melling) provokes him by making fun of the fact that Harry is haunted by Cedric's death from The Goblet of Fire and also his mom's death. As a storm approaches, demeanors come into the tunnel sucking Dudley's so...

Non-Stop (2014), PG-13, 3 stars

The passengers think Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) is a terrorist. Airports and airplanes. The lines. The crowds. The delays. Everything that Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) hates about flying. When it comes to airports, I have to go through the procedure with taking your carry-on baggage and luggage on the flight. Then, I go through security which I have to admit is not as bad, just follow the rules and guidelines. After security, what do you do? If you are two or three hours early, you have time to kill: Have something to eat, watch something on your IPad, shop, etc. As you board and get on the plane, anything can happen from turbulence to maybe something unexpected like this movie's situation. This movie is silly and preposterous, but it is a fun movie to watch. The movie opens with Bill Marks tired drinking alcohol and arguing with a supervisor on his cellphone glancing at a photo of his daughter. But, he is trying to get his act together by lighting a cigarette while he is being pus...
