After making a business deal, what are they doing in a cow pasture? |
Dan Trunkman (Vince Vaughn) is fired for arguing with his boss, Chuck Portnoy (Sienna Miller), of Dyanic Systems for giving 5% less commission on a business deal. He throws an angry tirade and leaves and starts his own business with Tim McWinters (Tom Wilkinson) and Mike Pancake (Dave Franco) following him. Tim claims he was let go for just being too old and Mike wants to tag along and learn about Dan and his business. What is this, Jerry Maguire?
A year later, Dan's business barely gets off the ground and Dan gets a message saying that he is going on a business trip to Portland to meet with two investors, Jim Spinch (James Marsden) and Bill Whimsey (Nick Frost), the latter being Dan's old friend. On the family side, Dan's kids are bullied and Dan's wife, Susan (June Diane Raphael) wants to put their son in a private school despite the expensive tuition.
They travel to Portland and Dan discovers that Chuck is there on business and she is getting started as it is implied that she is sleeping with Jim getting a head start. And, during a presentation, Dan gives the presentation as it faints and it gets out of control. And, believe me, this is one of the many things that get out of control.
The only reason I gave one star is because of Nick Frost. He delivers a few laughs and he develops a character. The other characters are people cashing a paycheck not putting any effort with the material. It wastes Dave Franco's and Wilkinson's talent. But, Vince Vaughn...yikes, Vaughn, this is another turkey of his slew of awful canon of "films". There's not much to recommend here. It is just one unfunny joke after another, the characters are caricatures of businessmen having a "good time", I suppose and it has a predictable conclusion. I hate this comedy. Short, but sweet.
