Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as Jesse and Celine. |
After the conclusion of Before Sunset, Jesse and Celine (Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy) reunite nine years later and they are parents to twin girls, which they were conceived during their relationship in the second movie. While they are happily communicating with one another, they both have issues in their own personal lives. Jesse struggles to have a good relationship with his son, Hank, who lives with his ex-wife in Chicago. After he spends some time with Jesse on the peninsula in Greece, he is dropped off. Celine is on the fence on what path to go to in terms of her future.
Jesse and Celine basically talk about the love and life that is revolving around their relationship. Jesse talks about his childhood while Celine talks about her career. The movie presents a real case on how dialogue between a couple can be natural and clever. They also both reminisce the day that they both met each other in the first movie. They do care about one another.

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy has created, maybe, one of the most romantic couples in movie history because young adults can identify and foresee what may happen to their lives. Richard Linklater also has tried a hand into creating a successful trilogy because he has an eye to set up the scene with just concise analysis and keen timing on the dialogue between the two main characters. This movie looked sensational when shooting Greece.
Before Midnight is one of the best conclusions to a trilogy, right up there with The Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight trilogy. The whole trilogy is basically an outlook of love, long-term commitment, and dodgy memories. It was wonderful to see these two characters to wonder what they have been up to since the conclusion of its predecessor. This movie is a rich and revealing honest film with sharp dialogue between two wonderful characters. It is also one of the best movies of the year.
