Star Wars (1977), PG, ★★★★

Chewbacca, Han Solo, Leia and Luke.
In the year 1977, in which I was not born unfortunately, the title cards reading "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." and the big jolt of musical notes from John Williams' beloved score and orchestra came a revolutionary science fiction film that will bolster hard-core fans and merchandise forever. This is the change to the whole film industry in terms of what we can do to persuade audiences from every demographic to witness something that have never been seen before. This movie changed on what we view special effects forever.

In the build-up to the new Star Wars movie, I am going to review every one (yes, including the prequels) in detail as best as I can. If I do spoil something, you have been warned: SPOILER ALERT!

The movie begins in a state of civil war in which spies of the Rebel Alliance have stolen the Death Star plans. Princess Leia's (Carrie Fisher) ship is captured by Imperial Forces by evil lord, Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones). Before she was captured, she transmits a holographic recording to R2-D2, the droid who is accompanied by C-3PO, in which they both escape from the captured ship to the desert planet, Tatooine.

When Jawa traders capture both droids, they are both sold to both Owen and Beru Lars (Phil Brown and Shelagh Fraser) and their nephew, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). When he cleans up R2-D2, he accidentally presses the button which triggers Leia's recording to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), in which Luke thinks if she is referring to Ben, a hermit who is isolate from his house. When R2-D2 is searching for Obi-Wan, Luke follows and is almost killed by Tusken Raiders. Obi-Wan scares them away and saves Luke. Obi-Wan tells the tales in which it was a peaceful time for the Republic as the Jedi, a faction of galactic peacekeepers, were betrayed and killed by the Emperor and he turned it into the Empire. Simultaneously, Vader fought alongside and was trained as Obi-Wan's pupil before he was being "seduced" by the Empire.

Once Luke's uncle and aunt get killed by Imperial stormtroopers who were searching for the droids, Luke joins Obi-Wan on their quest and to train to become a Jedi. But, they go to Mos Eisley Cantina and hire smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his companion, Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to transport them to Alderaan via his ship, the Millennium Falcon. The journey begins to rescue Princess Leia and save the planet.

"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."
Obviously, this is a great sci-fi movie. But is it a great plot? Yes. I mean they try to stop a few evil bad guys from using the ultimate weapon on destroying various planets and also star fighters. Even though it has been a while since I've seen all the Star Wars movies, I took a look at this movie more carefully to navigate what all the characters are going through and how they are integral to the plot. They all do and have a great chemistry with each other as they all are having great exchanges with each other especially during the big sequence in which Luke and Han have to disguise themselves as storm troopers.

But, the movies themselves cannot be as successful without John Williams' score. His music takes the adventure up two notches by embodying the heroics of each character and the tension they have to go through to destroy the Death Star, especially in a virtuoso sequence in which the rebels trying to shoot down the exhaust to destroy the Death Star. The first movie itself is a grand adventure with some fun and suspense that makes it a great sci-fi popcorn movie you can watch yearly. The adventure begins...

The Handmaiden (2016), Unrated, ★★★1/2

What are you up to? Huh? I heard some praise from a few people I know that have seen this film and I was a bit skeptical because unfortunately I do not get the chance to see many foreign films. This movie is based on a British novel that is transposed to a Korean story under a Japanese ruler. I was going into this cold not knowing what the title could lead to or what the story will be about and how this movie will unfold. And, I have to say: Know a little bit of the plot but not much else because the result is a harrowing experience that is twisted, disturbing, erotic, and most of all, classical with such disciplined filmmaking by director Park Chan-Wook. A con man hires a pickpocket named Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri), who is well-known as she comes from a family of con artists, to become Lady Hideko's (Kim Min-hee) handmaiden. Her mission is to convince Hideko to reject her barbarous uncle, Kouzuki (Cho Jin-Woong) and marry Fujiwara (Ha Jung-Woo), who hired Sook-hee. Kouzuki's
