The Top 5 Super Bowl Ads of 2018 (Super Bowl LII)

Wow! What a great game! Favored as the underdogs, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off the victory against the Patriots 41-33 and it was a thriller. I was thinking that it may be deja vu as the Eagles were behind a point as it was reminiscent of the Falcons letting go of a 25-point lead last year against the Patriots. But, no, the Eagles did what was necessary. What was better this year than last year were the commercials in my opinion as there were some funny ones because the ones regarding the political messages did not have a great execution (e.g. the T-Mobile ad, which was my least favorite ad last night.) And, this list was tough to make a list for as the others were my honorable mentions but I think I chose the right five. However, there are a lot of honorable mentions. So, here they are.

5. Amazon

Imagine if Alexa lost her voice. Well, one thought is substitute the voice for celebrities' voices, however, it could be a disaster. The ones that made me lose it was Rebel Wilson's voiceover, the "country music" moment and Anthony Hopkins' voiceover. I would not want the latter's voice as it is reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter. Yikes. But, this ad delivers.

4. Michelob Ultra

Watch both parts to get the joke because when you think the first ad is not that funny, the punchline in the second ad is hilarious as Chris Pratt as an extra of the commercial not the star. Plus, it delivers that people are fond of beer...BEER, specifically Michelob Ultra. The last shot in the second ad with Chris Pratt is truly what sold it in a silly way.

3. Doritos/Mountain Dew

Doritos Blaze vs Mountain Dew Ice, most specifically, Peter Dinklage vs Morgan Freeman in a rapping lip-syncing contest. It both delighted me and made me laugh as they become two "rapping legends" as they are respectable, great actors. The actor's real narration from both sides is what sold it because of how it is presented with the musicians in the painting. God, seeing Dinklage with the fire in the background makes me clamor for the last season of Game of Thrones. Give it to me now!

2. NFL

This was tough between this one and the #1 choice. However, I did not expect for an NFL commercial to vault into the top 5 but this was fun because it celebrated the celebration touchdowns that we have got this year. Yeah, the Giants had a rough season but this may be great things to come for the team, including Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.. Despite my hatred towards the Dirty Dancing movie, I was laughing so hard at their surprisingly good choreography up until the last few seconds with the iconic move. Let them dance!

1. Tide

Yep, it's all of the ads in the Super Bowl. It's a meta-ad with David Harbour (Jim Hopper from Stranger Things) that classifies every typical ad with a Tide ad. It is like Inception in a way in which you have the question if every Tide ad is a regular ad, is every regular ad a Tide ad? Ooooo....*cue Stranger Things theme music*. I don't know why I laughed hard during both the main ad and the Old Spice ad because maybe Harbour just said "No. Tide ad." This was great as it does not treat itself too seriously.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Toyota

Verizon

KIA

Budweiser

Bud Light - Part 1 (I did not like Part 2.)

Avocados from Mexico

2015 Documentaries

I have only seen 6 documentaries this year which also includes Amy and I Am Chris Farley . But, I have to be honest, this has not been a particularly strong year for documentaries except for onethat got me emotionally and mentally as what I examine for when they uncover the truth or some facts from the people involved in these documentaries. But, here are the four I have seen this year: Listen To Me Marlon, Unrated, 4 stars This is the most insightful documentary of the year as we only hear Marlon Brando narrating his life and experiences what he has gone through regarding his family, his private life and his film experiences regarding The Godfather , Apocalypse Now , Last Tango in Paris , etc. It is like Marlon Brando came out of his grave to give us another profoundly moving movie only we hear his voice and scenery and nothing else. The Look of Silence, R, 3.5 stars Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up documentary is a light-hearted but still-disturbing film regarding a ...

Daddy's Home 2 (2017), PG-13, ★1/2

The first Daddy's Home was surprisingly a financial success as I thought it was not as bad as many people thought. I thought it was a solid cable watch because it had enough laughs for that sort of mixed recommendation. I was not craving for a sequel for this movie because again, comedy sequels have a very bad record, however, the only difference is that it is not too late since the first movie came out a few years ago. But, this sequel is a reminder as to why we do not need a sequel to a hit comedy because this is a pretty much forgettable comedy, especially a holiday comedy...which I hade a guilty pleasure for. This did not work for me. Brad and Dusty (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) have become friends after the events of the first film and they set up a co-dad system where their two children, Megan and Dylan, spending time at each father's home. Dusty has re-married to writer Karen (Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio) and he is step-dad to Adrianna, Karen...

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), R, 4 stars

The stockbrokers worshipping Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) like a god. Wall Street. The clients, the adrenaline, the stocks, the money, the power, and the decadence. The former three pertains to the man's job, but the latter three pertains what any stockbroker wants in order to have the freedom to do whatever they want with the client's money. As Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) would say, "The name of the game is: move the money from your client's pocket into your pocket." We basically spend three hours seeing all of these Wall-Street scumbags steal the clients' money into their own pockets and spend it on booze, drugs, women, and other insane things in more insane activities. I have witnessed here is a great movie that I would not watch repetitively. The movie starts with Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) blowing cocaine onto a hooker's butt and he and his brokers throwing a little person onto a board with a dollar sign in the center. It'...
