My Favorite Romance Movies and Overrated Romance Movies

Well...Valentine's Day is around the corner and even though it is next week, I might encourage to watch some of these romantic comedies or dramas just for the sake of fun or you basically watch these just because you love them.

Now, I have to say that even though I'll address my favorite romance movies, both comedies and dramas, I will also address my LEAST favorite romance movies. And, here's the reason why I'm putting that category on this list. Because people were asking what is my least favorite genre, I tell them romantic comedies are my least favorite genre because it has the same formulaic structure or just insert unnecessary jokes to propel the story and movie. It is tiring. So, I will start with my favorite romantic movies.

Favorite 10, well let's make it 20, romantic movies:

Singin' in the Rain

Roman Holiday

Annie Hall

The Princess Bride

Moonstruck

When Harry Met Sally...

An Officer and a Gentleman

Pretty Woman

Beauty and the Beast

The Bridges of Madison County

The American President

Jerry Maguire

Titanic

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

The Notebook

Love Actually

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The Proposal

(500) Days of Summer

Crazy, Stupid Love

Overrated Romantic Movies (there will be controversy):

An Affair to Remember  (a classic that I thought was sub-par)

Love Story (again, it was ok, nothing special for me)

Out of Africa (love the score, but the movie was a bit boring)

The Graduate (there are great moments, but in the end, its dated)

Flashdance (two or three good scenes, but the movie is boring and the chemistry was not there)

Dirty Dancing (hated this movie but I thought the ending was great)

Romeo + Juliet (this scene is good, but this was a disaster for me.)

The English Patient (like the actors, liked a few scenes especially this one, but it was a snooze-fest)

10 Things I Hate About You (there are patches of good moments and there's an idea, but the movie never takes off)

A Walk to Remember (liked Mandy Moore's character but it's cliched, chemistry did not click for me and if you've seen Love Story, it's basically the same story)

Bridget Jones Series (first one is the best one but I was mixed, so none of them appealed to me)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), PG-13, ★★1/2

We're about halfway through the Harry Potter franchise and this is the turning point in which I found the material to be darker and more mature when the storyline surrounding Lord Voldemort grows. And, also we see another new and fresh direction as David Yates comes into the spotlight to finish off the franchise with the last four movies. I remember watching the trailer in the theaters and I was excited for this movie as it was mostly action-packed. The bottom line is despite the camaraderie between the young Hogwarts characters and a real-good action sequence in the climax, it is a choppily edited and more grounded movie that does not provoke much magic or memorable scenery. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is enduring a hot summer and Dudley (Harry Melling) provokes him by making fun of the fact that Harry is haunted by Cedric's death from The Goblet of Fire and also his mom's death. As a storm approaches, demeanors come into the tunnel sucking Dudley's so...

Non-Stop (2014), PG-13, 3 stars

The passengers think Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) is a terrorist. Airports and airplanes. The lines. The crowds. The delays. Everything that Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) hates about flying. When it comes to airports, I have to go through the procedure with taking your carry-on baggage and luggage on the flight. Then, I go through security which I have to admit is not as bad, just follow the rules and guidelines. After security, what do you do? If you are two or three hours early, you have time to kill: Have something to eat, watch something on your IPad, shop, etc. As you board and get on the plane, anything can happen from turbulence to maybe something unexpected like this movie's situation. This movie is silly and preposterous, but it is a fun movie to watch. The movie opens with Bill Marks tired drinking alcohol and arguing with a supervisor on his cellphone glancing at a photo of his daughter. But, he is trying to get his act together by lighting a cigarette while he is being pus...
