The Top 5 Super Bowl Ads of 2017 (Super Bowl LI)

Wow! What a game! This year's game was exciting, suspenseful and riveting down to the wire when we got into the first overtime in Super Bowl history. So, I have to tip my hat off to Coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Tom Brady, running back James White and the rest of the New England Patriots to come back to win the Super Bowl. Some records have been broken last night. Now, I have to say this year's batch of Super Bowl ads are weak because it did not infuse as much humor as I want and many ads' executions did not take off or its payoff was lackluster and did not make me want to buy the product or get interested in the company.

However, there were 5 ads that made the list for me as my favorite Super Bowl ads this year but they got to try harder next year and I also have a few honorable mentions and sort of a consolation prize:

5. Budweiser

Now, I do not know the deal with people not liking this commercial. It simply about an immigrant who had the idea to come up with a beer and where does he take the opportunity? To America. America is defined as the "land of opportunity" and this commercial, we get to observe the origins of Anheuser and Busch meet. The bottom line is that in America: he wanted to pursue a dream to produce one of the most recognized beers ever made.

4. Honda

It is a little creepy with the CGI faces moving in the yearbook. However, this is another commercial with a positive and self-affirming message that ties in with a 20-year dream, the all-new Honda CR-V.  All these celebrities tell their tales as to how they wanted to pursue their dreams despite their classmates' doubts. It is a well-executed, celebrated commercial that takes off with such organization and makes people want to buy Hondas or pursue their dreams no matter how impossible it could be.

3. Mr. Clean

This is for the ladies: both wives and girlfriends. Look, as a guy, there have been times where I don't help around but I mostly help around the house or help around with other work in certain places. It actually had a clever concept has to how wives view their husbands when they work around the house even if they are not appeared to be perfect. But, it is the payoff that sells it and it was hilarious.

2. Kia

There's something about the Kia Super Bowl commercials that are consistently good. However, this year it is riding on the momentum of actress and comedianne Melissa McCarthy with the SNL skit...

but her saving the environment no matter the cost of her life could be worth it. But, it is the comedy surrounding the dialogue and also her physical humor that made me laugh a whole lot. Plus, the song of "Holding Out for a Hero" played in the background of the ad made it more hilarious.

1. Squarespace

I think Squarespace had the most entertaining and funny commercial that many people can identify: creating a domain for a website. It is frustrating to know the domain you want is already taken because there could be other people that has the same name as you did or John Malkovich's name. It is a coincidence...like Michael Bolton from Office Space has the same name as the pop singer. Also, I hailed as my favorite because it is a simple execution that is mostly focused on one frame of his frustration and his frustration is what makes it hilarious.

Best Honorable Mention (Consolation Prize):

84 Lumber

If they had not abruptly ended the Super Bowl commercial and maybe think about how they would end it, it could've easily made my top 5. But, this long 5-minute ad supersedes the top 5 list because it looks from the perspective of INNOCENT immigrants who want to have the opportunity to start a new life in America even though there could not be much hope in this time. I think it is a really good and powerful commercial that definitely deserves recognition.

Now, for the other honorable mentions:

Snickers

Bai

Avocados from Mexico

Buick

Tide

2015 Documentaries

I have only seen 6 documentaries this year which also includes Amy and I Am Chris Farley . But, I have to be honest, this has not been a particularly strong year for documentaries except for onethat got me emotionally and mentally as what I examine for when they uncover the truth or some facts from the people involved in these documentaries. But, here are the four I have seen this year: Listen To Me Marlon, Unrated, 4 stars This is the most insightful documentary of the year as we only hear Marlon Brando narrating his life and experiences what he has gone through regarding his family, his private life and his film experiences regarding The Godfather , Apocalypse Now , Last Tango in Paris , etc. It is like Marlon Brando came out of his grave to give us another profoundly moving movie only we hear his voice and scenery and nothing else. The Look of Silence, R, 3.5 stars Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up documentary is a light-hearted but still-disturbing film regarding a

Daddy's Home 2 (2017), PG-13, ★1/2

The first Daddy's Home was surprisingly a financial success as I thought it was not as bad as many people thought. I thought it was a solid cable watch because it had enough laughs for that sort of mixed recommendation. I was not craving for a sequel for this movie because again, comedy sequels have a very bad record, however, the only difference is that it is not too late since the first movie came out a few years ago. But, this sequel is a reminder as to why we do not need a sequel to a hit comedy because this is a pretty much forgettable comedy, especially a holiday comedy...which I hade a guilty pleasure for. This did not work for me. Brad and Dusty (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) have become friends after the events of the first film and they set up a co-dad system where their two children, Megan and Dylan, spending time at each father's home. Dusty has re-married to writer Karen (Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio) and he is step-dad to Adrianna, Karen&

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), R, 4 stars

The stockbrokers worshipping Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) like a god. Wall Street. The clients, the adrenaline, the stocks, the money, the power, and the decadence. The former three pertains to the man's job, but the latter three pertains what any stockbroker wants in order to have the freedom to do whatever they want with the client's money. As Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) would say, "The name of the game is: move the money from your client's pocket into your pocket." We basically spend three hours seeing all of these Wall-Street scumbags steal the clients' money into their own pockets and spend it on booze, drugs, women, and other insane things in more insane activities. I have witnessed here is a great movie that I would not watch repetitively. The movie starts with Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) blowing cocaine onto a hooker's butt and he and his brokers throwing a little person onto a board with a dollar sign in the center. It'
