The 87th Academy Awards Predictions

Who will win?
This has been the most interesting awards season in a while because when I saw the nominees, I was not too happy with some of the nominated stuff such as Jake Gyllenhaal being snubbed for Best Actor for Nightcrawler or The LEGO Movie not being nominated for Best Animated Feature. Let's move on! However, initially it was a Boyhood sweep but Birdman has gained momentum. Without further ado, here are my predictions for the MAJOR categories: (Video of my predictions of all categories coming soon.)

BEST PICTURE:
American Sniper
Birdman
Boyhood
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Selma
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

Will win, should win: Boyhood

Dark Horse: The Grand Budapest Hotel & Birdman

I think Boyhood will win slightly over Birdman, even though the latter was my favorite movie of 2014, because it is a magnificent achievement and a well-acted movie However, I will be very happy if Birdman or The Grand Budapest Hotel to win, nevertheless, they were in my top 4 with the other being Whiplash.

BEST DIRECTOR:
Wes Anderson  (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Alejandro González Inñaritu (Birdman)
Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher)
Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game)

Will win: Alejandro Gonzalez Inñaritu (Birdman)

Should win: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)

Dark Horse: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)

This is a tough one even though I have a great affinity for Linklater to shoot the film over 12 years. I'm going to pick Inñaritu because of his technical achievement and plus he got the DGA.

BEST ACTOR:
Steve Carell (Foxcatcher)
Bradley Cooper (American Sniper)
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game)
Michael Keaton (Birdman)
Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything)

Will win: Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything)

Should win: Michael Keaton (Birdman)

Dark Horse: Bradley Cooper (American Sniper)

This is another close category between Redmayne and Keaton. I'm picking Redmayne because he got the SGA and BAFTA awards and has really gained momentum. But, I am still rooting for Michael Keaton to win because of his funny and incredible performance.

BEST ACTRESS:
Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night)
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything)
Julianne Moore (Still Alice)
Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl)
Reese Witherspoon (Wild)

Will win, should win: Julianne Moore (Still Alice)

Dark Horse: Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl)

Julianne Moore is getting her first Oscar finally. It is a career achievement award and she deserves it. She's a great actress. But, Pike was pretty frightening in Gone Girl.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Robert Duvall (The Judge)
Ethan Hawke (Boyhood)
Edward Norton (Birdman)
Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher)
J.K. Simmons (Whiplash)

Will win, should win: J.K. Simmons (Whiplash)

Dark Horse: None, but if I had to choose one: Edward Norton (Birdman).

Whoever wins but Simmons will be a shocker. His performance was the best performance of the year.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
Laura Dern (Wild)
Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game)
Emma Stone (Birdman)
Meryl Streep (Into the Woods)

Will win, should win: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)

Dark Horse: None

It is a pretty weak category but it really belongs to Arquette.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY:
Birdman
Boyhood
Foxcatcher
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Nightcrawler

Will win, should win: The Grand Budapest Hotel

Dark Horse: Nightcrawler

This is a tough category but I think based on witty dialogue and sharp timing, The Grand Budapest Hotel will win and will finally get Wes Anderson the recognition he deserves from the Academy.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY:
American Sniper
The Imitation Game
Inherent Vice
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

Will win, should win: The Imitation Game

Dark horse: Whiplash

Um, it's a total guess. The Imitation Game.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
Big Hero 6
The Boxtrolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Song of the Sea
The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Will win, should win: How To Train Your Dragon 2

Dark Horse: Big Hero 6

The LEGO Movie should win, oh, wait, it was not nominated. How To Train Your Dragon 2 will win on a landslide.

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:
Citizenfour
Finding Vivian Maier
Last Days in Vietnam
The Salt of the Earth
Virunga

Will win, should win: Citizenfour

Dark Horse: Virunga

Citizen four is a thrilling documentary and by no means, it should win the Oscar.

So, it's Hollywood's biggest night and the thriller is towards the end of the telecast with Best Picture, Director and Actor. Who and what will the prize home? We'll find out Sunday.

2015 Documentaries

I have only seen 6 documentaries this year which also includes Amy and I Am Chris Farley . But, I have to be honest, this has not been a particularly strong year for documentaries except for onethat got me emotionally and mentally as what I examine for when they uncover the truth or some facts from the people involved in these documentaries. But, here are the four I have seen this year: Listen To Me Marlon, Unrated, 4 stars This is the most insightful documentary of the year as we only hear Marlon Brando narrating his life and experiences what he has gone through regarding his family, his private life and his film experiences regarding The Godfather , Apocalypse Now , Last Tango in Paris , etc. It is like Marlon Brando came out of his grave to give us another profoundly moving movie only we hear his voice and scenery and nothing else. The Look of Silence, R, 3.5 stars Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up documentary is a light-hearted but still-disturbing film regarding a

Daddy's Home 2 (2017), PG-13, ★1/2

The first Daddy's Home was surprisingly a financial success as I thought it was not as bad as many people thought. I thought it was a solid cable watch because it had enough laughs for that sort of mixed recommendation. I was not craving for a sequel for this movie because again, comedy sequels have a very bad record, however, the only difference is that it is not too late since the first movie came out a few years ago. But, this sequel is a reminder as to why we do not need a sequel to a hit comedy because this is a pretty much forgettable comedy, especially a holiday comedy...which I hade a guilty pleasure for. This did not work for me. Brad and Dusty (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) have become friends after the events of the first film and they set up a co-dad system where their two children, Megan and Dylan, spending time at each father's home. Dusty has re-married to writer Karen (Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio) and he is step-dad to Adrianna, Karen&
